Popular for its production in Rajasthan, the Kota Doria art of weaving is said to arise from the southern state of Mysore. The Kota Doria weavers were called Masuris as they were summoned to migrate to Rajasthan in the 17 th century by a Mughal General. Back then the fabric that they wove was called Kota Masuria for the very same reason.
The light and breezy fabric of Kota Doria is a combination of cotton and silk yarn, which is woven in square check pattern, known as ‘Khat’. The Khat consists of 14 yarns, out of which 8 are of cotton, thus imparting strength to the fabric, while the silk yarns makes it soft and airy. This beautiful fusion of cotton and silk yarn is what makes the Kota Doria sheer in nature.
